George Midgley born 10th August 1865 at Acaster Malbis,
ch; 10 September 1865, Acaster Malbis, Yorkshire, died 1921 Saskatchewan who
emigrated to Canada about 1884. He was the son of Thomas Midgley and Mary Haw of
Wigginton. Yorks. Thomas Midgley was born
on the 27th March 1833 at Copmanthorpe near York the third son of Samuel and
Hannah Midgley; on the 24th November 1856 he married Mary Haw. In 1859 they
moved to Acaster Malbis where five of their seven children were born, by the
early 1870s the family had moved to Fishergate in York. By the time their last
child was born the family had moved again this time to Huntington where Thomas
took the tenancy of a small farm it was here that Mary died from 'Phthisis' (TB)
on the 3rd April 1882. Thomas remarried a year later this marriage did not last
long as Thomas died on the 4th May 1883 from tetanus after injuring his hand.

Florence Midgley of Toronto
Glen Midgley of Toronto, Canada had a grandmother Florence Midgley b.
1878 who d. 1980 in Toronto and reached the age of 101.5. Glen believes that
Florence's lineage can be traced back to Yorkshire but has not yet found
the link.

Albert Midgley of Barnsley
Born in Barnsley about 1875, died in the Spanish influnza epidemic in
1918. Migrated to Canada perhaps in the early 1900's, son of Thomas Midgley
of Barnsley. The 1881 census shows Albert's parents and siblings:

Samuel Midgley of Bradford, was a composer and musician in England,
of some note. (unintentional pun?) His son, Arthur Reginald Midgley migrated
to Canada after WW1. Samuel's daughter, May, and another son continued to
live at 12 Oak Street, Bradford until their deaths. Samuel's other son was

Thomas William Midgley Grandfather Thomas came to Canada from
Yorkshire about 1882 and was married in Canada to Isabella Robertson. He
was christened 7 November 1875, father: William Midgley, Lutton, mother:
Ann [I.G.I]
Thomas had seven children. The second youngest was Garfield Midgley (born

Edmund Midgley Furniss (b 1830, Leeds, Yorkshire, d. 1912) married
Rachel Spencer (b.1828, d.1916) at Bradford Parish Church November 16th
1851. They had five children:
1. Annie Elizabeth b. 1852,Yorkshire, d. 1928.
2. Spencer b. 1855, Yorkshire, d. 1921.
3. William b. 1856, Yorkshire, d. 1910.
4. Emma b. abt. 1860, Ontario, Canada., d. 1885.
5. Charlotte ("Lottie") b. 1866, Ontario, Canada d. November 10, 1867
6. Charlotte ("Lottie") b. 1868, Ontario, Canada. d. 1947. Edmund and Rachel
emigrated to Canada with their three young children, accompanied by members
oRachel's extended family, in 1857. Edmund established a marble importing
and carving business in Ontario. Rachael was born in Ovenden,Yorkshire;
the daughter of Samuel Spencer.
Edmund Midgley Furniss was the son of John Furniss [Furness] of Leeds
and Ann Midgley of Leeds..John died between 1843 and 1851. Ann Midgley
was born about 1803 in Leeds, the daughter of Jonathan Midgley, grocer, of
Meadow Lane.
She was christened 17th November 1805, at St. Peter, Leeds.Proven siblings
of Ann Midgley are:

Midgley b. 1801 - William became a straw hat maker in Leeds
*Sarah
Midgley b. April 1803, d. Oct 1803

From "The Hamilton Spectator" Saturday August 8, 1931
"The funeral of Ada MIDGLEY, wife of Peter MIDGLEY, 71 Garfield Avenue
South, will take place on Monday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, from her
residence to Livingstone United church for service. Interment will
be made
in Hamilton cemetery." Hamilton refers to the one in Ontario, Canada.
Hamilton cemetery refers to Hamilton municipal cemetery which was principally
used by the Methodists. The United Church of Canada was formed in
1925. Livingstone United church would have been Methodist prior to
that date2.

Lewis Midgley
Married 1910 in Halifax to Sarah Emma Vickerman. They both migrated to
?Saskatoon. They had two children, Pauline and Charles.

Frederick Midgley
Born 8th June 1891, Bradford. He married Gertrude Mary Brook born 21st
Dec 1898, Bradford. Frederick had a brother, John, but Blair does not know
where John was born or where he lived.
